Ambode Approves N15.5m for Student Entrepreneurs

Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos state governor 1 The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has approved a total of N15.5 million in seed funding and grants for final year students of the state-owned higher institutions enrolled in the Ready Set Work (RSW) programme. The Ready Set Work is an entrepreneurship and employability training programme for final year students of tertiary institutions in the state, aimed at preparing them for economic productivity as value-creating employees or employers of labour. The initiative, which began in June, involved 500 promising final year students of the state University (LASU), Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) and the state College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), who enrolled in a rigorous curriculum either in the employability or the entrepreneurship track. Governor Ajimobi •’They’ll aid growth’ OYO State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has approved the creation of 35 new local council development areas (LCDAs) to accelerate even growth at the grassroots. This followed a motion, entitled: “Need to establish Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) for effective grassroots development”, brought before the House of Assembly, on June 16. Lawmakers urged the government to take proactive measures to establish LCDAs to ensure that growth gets to every community. Chief of Staff to the Governor  Dr. Gbade Ojo made this known yesterday while addressing reporters in Ibadan. He said the approval would give more legal teeth to Oyo State Gazette No. 23, Vol 27 of August 13, 2002, which created the 35 LCDAs, but with a nomenclature of local government areas. The presenters of the an­nual MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), which had its previous edition, last year in Durban, South Africa, have officially announced the 22nd of October, 2016 as the awards night. Although the list of nomi­nees and performers for the event is yet to be released, the event is scheduled to hold at the Ticket Pro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa. 2016 Admission: JAMB sets Nov deadline for varsities, polytechnics, others

The Joint Admis­sions and Ma­triculation Board (JAMB) has urged uni­versities, polytechnics and other tertiary insti­tutions in the country to conclude all admissions process for the 2016/2017 academic session before the end of November this year. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, stat­ed this in his speech de­livered during the ongo­ing technical meeting on 2016 admissions to first choice institutions at the Bayero University, Kano. In the speech, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Prof Oloyede said the board would not interfere with the list of candidates sent for the 2016 admissions, but urged the institutions to ensure the admission process is sped up. $10.3b probe: EFCC to seize Diezani’s assets in America

Ex-minister ‘acquired properties in associates’ names’ Former Petroleum Resources Minister  Diezani Alison-Madueke is likely to lose some United States properties traced to her. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is  probing Mrs Alison-Madueke for over $10 billion slush funds. It has initiated a process for the seizure of the assets – in line with United States laws. EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu has just returned from the United States where he discussed  with the authorities how to attach the properties, The Nation learnt yesterday. In the last one year, the EFCC has traced assets and items worth about $10billion to Mrs. Alison-Madueke and her business associates, Mr. Kola Aluko and Chief Jide Omokore. Some of the assets include an $18million peoperty (over N6.3billion at N350 exchange rate) in Abuja.
