Crisis of identity: INEC disqualifies African Peoples Congress 26 March, 2013 The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, rejected the application by the African Peoples Congress, one of the political associations in contention of the acronym, APC, saying that the association breached Section 222 (a) of the 1999 Nigeria Constitution as amended. African Peoples Congress which pasted its posters all around Abuja had earlier in the day raised the alarm that INEC had plotted to deny them registration with alleged flimsy reasons saying that they would resist any such attempts and would also contest it up to the Supreme Court level, but the Commission’s Director, Public Affairs, Emmanuel Umenger when contacted had denied any such plot. Bloodbaths: US Worried About Unending Killings in Nigeria 26 March, 2013 The United States (US) Government has begun expressing anxiety over the unending spate of killings in Nigeria, as it yesterday held a crucial closed-door meeting with key players in the country's military. The meeting, which was held about 48 hours after the explosion that occurred again in Kano in less than two weeks, was at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence with top military chiefs in attendance at the instance of the Defence minister of State, Olusola Obada. Journalists were barred from the meeting in which the United States' Ambassador to Nigeria, Terence McCulley, who came with the message from the US government was said to have expressed deep feelings over the continuous bombings, killings, maiming and destruction of property especially in the northern part the country. They were speaking at a two-day international conference on “Oculoplasty, Aesthetics, Ocular Oncology and Squint” organised by Delhi-based eye care chain Centre for Sight (CFS). It is being attended by 50 experts and 150 doctors from all over the country. Dr. Santosh G. Friday, 15 March marked the untimely exit of Pa Daniel Mbonde, a retired Prison Warder beheaded in his farm by his own son whose name Cameroon Tribune got as Gabriel Mbonde alias “Daddy Black”. Gabriel, 25, is presently languishing at the Buea Central Police station cell while the headless body of the father by press time (3pm Saturday) was brought to the family compound around the ‘Pala Pala field’ neighbourhood by the police for burial. Dad Shoots His 2 Children While They Sleep 26 March, 2013 A 69-year-old man is accused of shooting his two adult children while they slept early Sunday, killing one and seriously injuring the other, cops said. The alleged shooter, who was not immediately identified, called 911 just before 3:30 a.m. A dispatcher talked the man out of shooting himself — just as his wife and two young grandchildren also slept inside the home in Puyallup, about 5 miles east of Tacoma. The 43-year-old daughter and 46-year-old son were taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where she died, said Puyallup Deputy Police Chief Dave McDonald. Her brother remains in grave condition. Cops weren’t releasing the names of the family members nor the exact type of gun used in the shooting.
