3 DEATHS, DAMAGE: Brazil 2014 World Cup Stadium Collapses (PHOTOS)

The accident also caused significant damage. This could also mean a delay in delivering all 12 venues of the Itaquerao Stadium, which was 94 percent completed, by FIFA's December deadline. The story continues below A huge metal structure appears to be buckled atop the stadium. It reportedly destroyed part of the stands in the east side of the venue, and an LED panel installed outside the venue also was hit. University Of Abuja To Re-Open December 1.

After the Federal Government issued this morning the directive ordering all Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities to re-open their universities for academic activities, the management of the University of Abuja has directed its students to resume academic activities on Sunday, the 1st of December. The statement was this morning signed by the University registrar. Telephone calls to the university’s ASUU chairman Dr. Clement Chup to react to the directive was not answered.

BREAKING: ASUU May Suspend Strike Once Resolutions Reached With Jonathan Accepted

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said they would suspend strike within 24 hours once the resolutions reached with President Goodluck Jonathan on November 4 were accepted. The Union, however, described the  statement  credited to Supervising Minister and Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike,  that ASUU was making new outrageous demands as "untrue and absolute lie". ASUU’s position was made known by the National Treasurer,  Dr. Ademola Aremu,  in an interview with  The Nation  in Ibadan on Wednesday. The Union said it asked Jonathan to facilitate the endorsement of resolutions reached with him and signed by high ranking government official preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation but not a Permanent Secretary. BREAKING NEWS: FG Gives ASUU 1 Week Ultimatum To Call Off Strike (UPDATED)

Today the Federal Government gave the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), one week ultimatum to call off the lingering lecturers' strike. The acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja. It was gathered  that the government has also ordered Vice Chancellors of Universities to declare the jobs of the striking lecturers vacant as from Wednesday, December 4. Wike called the ongoing varsity teachers’ strike as “act of sabotage.” “The continuation of the strike despite several meetings, especially with President Goodluck Jonathan is an attempt by the union to sabotage all efforts by government to address the issue,"  he said. The minister disclosed that government has met all its commitments and obligations with respect to the agreement. ASUU: AAUA VC Recruits New People To Replace Striking Lecturers

The academic war between Management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State and its striking lecturers has deepened following a report that the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Femi Mimiko has commenced recruitment of new lecturers to replace the striking lecturers, having refused to pull out of the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) strike. It was gathered by the jorunalists that Prof. Mimiko is determined to re-open the university on December 2, after he had ordered the students to resume this Monday for the commencement of the second term semester programme. But the Chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi has described the move by the management as illegal.
