While admitting Nigerians can actually rap, Majek says, in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Entertainment Today, that their American counterparts are light years ahead of them. ‘You know you can’t compare American rap with Nigerian rap. Nigerians can rap but they don’t have the swagger of the Americans’ In recent times, it turns out that one of the most used words in Nigerian music has been the word ‘swagger’; with ‘swag‘ becoming the SI Unit  for measuring images and persona. But the legendary musician, who’s going through some of the most difficult times of his life and career thinks Nigerian rappers hardly have it. Image
Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Artists 2013 Diddy ranks No. 1 on this year’s list of the richest rappers with an estimated net worth of $580 million, followed by Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Birdman and 50 Cent. Sean “Diddy” Combs rose to mainstream fame in the late 1990s rapping about his desire for Benjamins, otherwise known as $100 bills. A decade and a half later, he might need to consider some larger denominations—McKinleys, Clevelands and Madisons, perhaps—to express his wealth. Diddy ranks No. 1 on this year’s  list of hip-hop’s wealthiest artists , with an estimated net worth of $580 million. The bulk of the Bad Boy Records founder’s wealth comes from non-musical ventures, namely his deal with  Diageo ’s Ciroc. The agreement entitles him to eight-figure annual payouts and a nine-figure windfall if the brand is ever sold—and Ciroc’s value has never been

"The God Who Does Not Exist" ---Douglas Anele

Image
The God Who Does Not Exist 31 March, 2013 Features I feel very sorry for people like Douglas Anele who maintain God does not exist. At university, I was a student of Philosophy. You had to be, if you studied Political Science. I therefore find it highly amusing that, in a discussion about the existence of God, Douglas Anele tries to dazzle me by dropping the names of philosophers like David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Bertrand Russell. But I need no such shenanigans in order to confound Douglas’ atheism. I will only present here a token of my relationship with the God Douglas foolishly says is non-existent. “Non-existent” meeting I was standing in the parking lot of the building where I lived in Lagos, talking to Bimbo Dada, now Director of Library, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, when a man walked through the gate and came to talk to me. He said he worked for an oil-company but had recently been posted out of town

2015 PRESIDENTIAL CONTEST: Obasanjo Intensifies Plot Against Jonathan 31 March, 2013 Politics Fresh facts emerged, at the weekend, that former President Matthew Okikiolakan Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo is intensifying his opposition to the 2015 re-election aspiration of incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan. This is at a time when some hawks in the Presidency are pressing for decisiveness on the part of Mr. President, with a view to clipping Obasanjo’s wings. The latest indication about the former President’s  moves are what sources described as the “series of meetings and consultations between Obasanjo and traditional rulers in the North”. A former state governor familiar with the surreptitious movements of Obasanjo in the last one month told Sunday Vanguard: “The former president has been moving round the North under the guise of being a special guest at functions; but the real reason for his visits to the N

Why Tonto Dikeh Must Be Stopped

Image
Why Tonto Dikeh Must Be Stopped 31 March, 2013 Arts and Entertainment I have watched with patient annoyance, I have listen with patient distress, to the sights and sounds of our dear actress turn singer Tonto Dikeh. Like many others, I chose not to talk about her but I was forced to know how wrong I was for keeping silent by the words of Alibaba and OJB, two eminent personalities that means a lot to the entertainment industry. Alibaba once tweeted “Playing a song of an artiste that you know is not good enough is no encouragement you are spoiling the market”, I don’t know what he had in mind. In an online interview with OJB by the crew of Information Nigeria, he said. Foremost, I must say I admire Tonto Dikeh’s confidence and doggedness, but to what avail is it when used in a wrong way. A cutlass is a good tool in the hand of a farmer, without which we cannot get food to it, but that same cutlass can kill! Despite her confid

Boko Haram Are Not Muslims – Jonathan

Image
Boko Haram Are Not Muslims – Jonathan 31 March, 2013 Local President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that members of the Boko Haram sect were not Muslims because no true adherents of Islam would subject the country to killings, bombings and other gory attacks the way they had done. From their modus operandi, Jonathan stated that the sect members were products of international terrorism and “not members of Islam or any other religion in Nigeria. “Those who mindlessly and indiscriminately attack worship places, schools, health workers, motor-parks, banks and ordinary road users must be seen as they truly are: the brainwashed pawns of international terrorism. They do not represent any true religion or section of the country and we must never play into their hands by succumbing to their nefarious ploys to incite religious, ethnic hatred and division among us,” the president stated. In his Easter message to Nigerians yesterday, Jona
