"We can't pressurise him, we must allow him to develop here. He always wants to learn, he's a fantastic guy. The NUT President, Michael Alogba-Olukoya, made this known in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos today. It will be recalled, that NUT had September 26 given a two-week ultimatum to the FG and ASUU to resolve their differences and end the strike, or face nationwide strike by NUT members. Ferguson's Book: I Told C.Ronaldo 'I'd Rather Shoot You Than Sell You Now

Image
23 October, 2013 Football Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has lifted the lid on how he promised Cristiano Ronaldo his dream move to Real Madrid. In Alex Ferguson: My Autobiography, which goes on general sale on Thursday, the Scot tells of how then Madrid president Ramon Calderon's public overtures riled him to the extent that he refused to sanction a sale despite Ronaldo's desire to move to Spain. Ronaldo would eventually join Madrid for £80 million (€94m) in 2009, which Ferguson believes was a statement of intent from re-instated president Florentino Perez. The Scot writes: "Madrid paid £80 million in cash for him, and do you know why? It was a way for Florentino Perez, their president, to say to the world, ‘We are Real Madrid, we are the biggest of the lot'. "When the possibility of him leaving edged towards being a probability, I reached a gentleman’s agreement with him. "I went to Carlos’s house in Portugal

Nigeria Can Forget About Free And Fair Elections As Long As Jega Remains INEC's Chief - AD

22 October, 2013 Politics The Alliance for Democracy (AD) has stated that as long as Professor Attahiru Jega remains the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria will not see  a free and fair  governorship election in Anambra State,  let alone the 2015 general elections. The position of the party was expressed in a press statement signed by its national chairman,  Rev. Okechukwu Obioha, that was made available to journalists at the end of AD's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. AD explained that they took their current stand after a review of alleged illegalities that INEC has been making under Jega’s leadership. In its statement, AD accused the INEC chairman of disregarding court judgements with impunity, stressing that under such situation, he lacked the credibility to preside over election in the country. It further specified that the INEC under Jega was choosing which court order to obey, noting that a case in

ASUU Strike: Again, FG Begs Lecturers To Quit Strike

22 October, 2013 Education The Federal Government on Tuesday reiterated its call on striking university lecturers to return to work in the interest of students and prevent further damage to the education system. The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, made the call during the Ministry’s monthly press briefing in Abuja. He claimed that government had conceded to most of the demands made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and wondered why the union would not budge in the interest of the nation. He said government’s commitment to resolve the crisis was further demonstrated by its representation by Vice President Namadi Sambo in the dialogue. Mr. Maku explained that the strike was not for salaries but for allowances, as salaries had been increased. According to the minister, “salaries have been increased by 54.3% which is half of our monthly income but they still insist on their 100 billon allowance. “Government offered N30 billion but

PHOTOS: The Scariest Army You Have Ever Seen Introduced By Taiwan

Image
22 October, 2013 Foreign Taiwanese Special Forces recently received updated bulletproof armor to protect operators from lethal headshots and to reduce fighting effectiveness of opposing forces. Scroll down for photos Check out one of the scariest-looking armies ever after the jump. The United States has also used the ballistic mask for small teams in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as during the drug war of the 1980s. A handful of these guys approaching is likely enough to disconcert even the most hardened cartel enforcer, but an entire platoon marching in lockstep is so terrifying we assume the weapons they’re carrying are just for show. After all, it’s hard to hit a target that’s fleeing full-sprint in the other direction. Each ballistic mask is apparently rated to block close-range shots from a 44 magnum – which is a hell of a weapon. It should be noted, however, that the mask distributes the impact of a bullet over a relatively small surface area, m

FIFA Under 17 World Cup : Nigeria 3 - 3 Sweden

Image
22 October, 2013 Football Nigeria, who won their first game in UAE 6-1 over Mexico, showed some defensive frailties in their 3-3 draw with Sweden at the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain. The Scandinavians, playing in their first FIFA U-17 World Cup, stuck to their game-plan and were thoroughly deserving of their share of the spoils against the Group F favourites as both sides now look good bets to reach the knockout rounds. The Swedes only needed 11 minutes to shock the much-feared Golden Eaglets, and the goal came from a hopeful ball lofted into the penalty area from deep in midfield. Nigerian keeper Dele Alampsu thought he had a chance at intercepting and raced out of his net, but Erdal Rakip got to the ball first and nodded across the face of goal. Valmir Berisha was on the spot to guide the ball home on the volley. It was 2-0 to the Scandinavians eight minutes later when Anton Saletros bamboozled his man on the left flank and crossed deep into

Guards at a prison in the Moldovan village of Pruncul have pounced on a cat being used to traffick bags of cannabis, tied around its neck. Suspicions were raised after the small grey and white creature was spotted regularly nipping in and out of the jail through a hole in a fence. Usain Bolt To Be Banned From Olympics

Image
23 October, 2013 Football According to Tuesday’s Daily Telegraph, Jamaican athletes, including sprint star Usain Bolt, could be banned from major events like the Olympics due to the country’s handling of recent drug scandals. World Anti-Doping Agency President John Fahey, in an interview with the paper, accused Jamaica of “farcical” behaviour in its attempts to defer an extraordinary audit of its anti-doping programme until next year. This followed an invitation to WADA by  the Jamaican  Prime Minister to investigate revelations from the former Executive Director of the Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission  that it conducted no drug tests in the five months leading up to last year’s London Olympics. But JADCO’s suggestion that it  would talk to WADA next year infuriated anti-doping chiefs. If Jamaica are  deemed to be non-compliant with the WADA code, their athletes could be banned from major competitions until the situation is resolved even though the li
