Untold Story Of How 21 Nigerians Made First List

Alhaji Lai Mohammed is the ebullient media face of the struggle for change that brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power. A research-based media manager, Mohammed started as a lone ranger in leading the opposition’s campaign against the PDP before others joined the fray. He brought a new dictum that “a tree can make the difference.” A lawyer by training, but a born-journalist by nature, the history of the defeat of PDP is incomplete without mentioning the Mohammed’s name. He was a thorn in PDP’s flesh, especially when Jonathan was President. Besides keeping the ruling party on its toes, he constantly drew out the the PDP media team with his constructive criticisms. He was harassed, intimidated and detained by security agencies. A product of the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the inclusion of this Oro-born publicist of the APC in Buhari’s cabinet might just be the icing on the cake. His inclusion on the list is also a manifestation of Buhari’s readiness for b

Read This When You’re Tired Of Everything

Just came across this online The world that we live in is an exhausting place to be. It is wearing. It is thankless. It is endlessly trying and scarcely rewarding. You’re tired simply because you live in it. You’re tired of loving too much, caring too much, giving too much to a world that never gives anything back. You are tired of investing in indefinite outcomes. You’re tired of uncertainties. Tired of grey. I know you haven’t always been this worn out – that there was a time when you were hopeful and pure. When your optimism outweighed your cynicism and you had an infinite amount in you to give. I know you have been chipped away and worn down piece by piece – a broken heart here and an un-kept promise there. I know the world hasn’t always been kind throughout the games you’ve played and that you’ve lost more times than you have ever won. I know you’re feeling uninspired to try again. I know. Because the truth is, we’re all tired. Every single one of us. By a certain

Nigerian Muslims regard the removal as an act of hostility taken to spite Muslims. We consider it as a step taken to satisfy a section of Christians who had been secretly agitating for the removal of Arabic graphics from some official emblems used in Nigeria. “We see the remo

How Some Nigerian Sailors Celebrated The 55th Independence At Sea

Image
Hi everyone, Even though I just got registered here, I've been following nairaland for a while now and it has always been fun here. From the posts to the comments, there has always been a reason to keep coming back for more. Sailors have one of the most demanding jobs in the world. From the normal man's view, we're seen as 'fun-catchers' who get to tour the world, travel to various countries and meet many people. Well, that's true but that's not all the story involved. How about the not-so-good part of the job? Oh trust me, there's a whole list of points on that side of the table ranging from poor communication with families/friends/loved ones, to missing out on important events/occasions, to jumping between time zones which could mess u up if not well planned for, to oddity in rest hours due to time difference and a whole lot more. But we're not complaining though. We signed up for it. Amidst all these things mentioned, sailors still

Why I don’t wear pants -Baby Blanche

Due to the kind of clothes she likes to wear and is c omfortable in, Baby Blanche has revealed in an interview with Showbiz that she hardly wears panties when she’s going out. Baby Blanche “I love all kinds of lingerie that make a woman feminine because I’m a woman, but I hardly wear panties. This is not because I don’t want to wear them but because the clothes I love to wear wouldn’t permit me to,” she told Showbiz. “I try as much as possible to act as a lady and not to let my panty lines show just because I like to wear dresses that hug my figure. So if I wear clothes and the outline of my panty is glaring like that I don’t like it,” she explained. “Being a lady is not only about wearing make-up and Brazilian hair but also comprises the propriety of whatever you’re wearing,” says Baby Blanche. She adds that she does not worry much about thoughts that she may be sexually assaulted by unscrupulous men because she makes sure she doesn’t go to awkward places at awk

Why Van Gaal axed Valencia, Schweinsteiger against Wolfsburg

T he Red Devils came from behind at Old Trafford to beat the Bundesliga side 2-1 in the Champions League last night. And Van Gaal admits poor performances from Antonio Valencia, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay forced him to take the trio off. The Dutchman explained: “Valencia? I think it was tactical because I wanted to prevent crosses from that side and Antonio let them cross. “Also, I saw that at that side they could be more effective on that side. “Schweinsteiger, he was tired I thought and that was the reason, because he also gave balls away. “Schweinsteiger is normally the best possession player, so that is the reason I changed him. The same for Memphis.”

EPL: How Mourinho will revive Chelsea

Image
As Chelsea’s problems deepen, Jose Mourinho will attempt to revive his side’s disastrous campaign by masterminding a victory against Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Another testing week has only added to the growing sense of unease around the club, with Mourinho forced to defend his relationship with his players after making unexpected changes for the Champions League trip to Porto. The Blues boss reacted to last weekend’s Premier League draw at Newcastle – Chelsea recovered after falling two goals down to Steve McClaren’s struggling team – by leaving Oscar, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao at home in midweek and starting Eden Hazard, John Terry and Nemanja Matic on the bench. Jose Mourinho The overhaul did not have the desired effect, with Chelsea slumping to a 2-1 defeat that reinforced the view that Mourinho’s side this season are a shadow of the team that eased their way to the Premier League title in May. The visit of Southampton will provide an

File: FA Cup quarter-final football match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford in Manchester, north west England, on March 9, 2015. AFP PHOTO Per Mertesacker has challenged Arsenal to show more aggression as they look to recover from their latest European flop in Sunday’s showdown with Premier League leaders Manchester United. Arsene Wenger’s side suffered an embarrassing 3-2 home defeat against Olympiakos in midweek that left them in severe danger of missing out on a place in the Champions League knock-out stages for the first time in 16 years. Adding to the Gunners’ humiliation was the horrendous blunder from goalkeeper David Ospina, who dropped a corner into his own net to gift the Greeks their second goal and in the process triggered a barrage of criticism for Wenger for his decision to rest regular first choice Petr Cech. But Arsenal defender Mertesacker offered no excuses for his team’s second successive European loss and admitted the

A 17-year-old student in Russia died after attempting to take a selfie on a 9th floor rooftop. According to Mirror , the teenager climbed to the top of a building in Vologda, Russia, with a friend one evening last week with the intention of taking a photo of himself dangling off the tall building. Buhari’s ministerial list: Are you surprised?

Image
The list of ministers has been in public discourse since the swearing in of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 20015. While many call for early formation of the cabinet so that the new government can hit the ground running, the government and its minders say the wait is necessary so as to form a crack team to implement the ‘change’ promised Nigerians. President Buhari, in his Independence broadcast, said:  “ Impatience is not a virtue. Order is more vital than speed. “ In his reaction, Publicity Secretary of the Yoruba Socio- political group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin said  that the President would have submitted the names of ministerial nominees at Eagle Square (on May 29,) rather than to the Senate. According to him: “There is no excitement or surprise in the list. They are mostly run of the mill people that do not warrant waiting four months to have. Those names could have been submitted at Eagles square on May 29.” What is your take: Are you surprised

El Rufai ‘insults’ Osinbajo – déjà vu

Image
A LL is not well between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the man widely referred to as the “unofficial vice president”, Mallam Nasir el Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State. Proof: after a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held on 17th September, 2015, el Rufai showed up in Osinbajo’s office and both took a photograph, all smiles; and splashed them all over the internet. Purpose: to debunk the “rumours” making the rounds that they had exchanged insults. To confirm the story further, a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) a couple of days ago tabled as an item for discussion/resolution the “face-off” between Osinbajo and el Rufai. El Rufai has been throwing his weight around since Buhari emerged as President of Nigeria. He is widely reputed to have been behind the double shuffle we saw on the last day of Professor Attahiru Jega as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Remember, Jeg
