The crisis was as a result of hike in school fees for both degree and NCE's students! As at time of this report,at least two students have been shot dead while three are critically battling to stay alive! Many of the students are being arrested arbitrarily from their hostels to the garrage! More details to follows. Is there any hope for common man in Nigeria?

By Nurudeen Oyewole, 19 July 2013 Lagos — The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) Ibadan zone has insisted that the on-going industrial action embarked upon by its members across the country will not be called off until government changes its stance on the union's demands. At a news briefing at the University of Lagos on Wednesday, Dr Adesola Nassir, zonal coordinator of ASUU, Ibadan zone, said re-negotiation of the 2009 agreement with ASUU remains the only way out. "Our members at ASUU Ibadan zone, comprising University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Lagos State University, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and Tai Solarin University of Education have resolved to remain on strike along with our colleagues nationwide for as long as it takes government to be faithful to the agreement and commence the process of renegotiating the 2009 agreement," Nassir said.

19 July, 2013 Features Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd.), and Brig.-Gen. Godwin Alabi-Isama (retd.), on Thursday faulted former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Nigerian Civil War account. Obasanjo’s story in his war memoirs, My Command, Akinrinade and Alabi-Isama said, was full of “serious and historical errors” and constituted a “self-glorification.” The former President’s account, the retired military officers added, amounted to denying others, who helped to achieve Nigeria’s victory, the credit they deserved. The civil war took place between 1967 and 1970. The generals, who participated in the war, spoke in Lagos at the public presentation of Alabi-Isama’s book, Tragedy of Victory: on the spot account of Nigeria-Biafra Civil War in the Atlantic Theatre. The author, in his book, claimed that Obasanjo, who was the last Commander of the Third Marine Commando that led the military campaigns against Biafra, did not participate

19 July, 2013 Foreign A Court in Dubai has sentenced a 24 year old Norwegian to 16 months in jail for being raped according to news report from the United Arab Emirates. The court defined the rape as sex outside marriage and also found her guilty of perjury and of drinking alcohol. Marte Deborah Dalelv, 24 was on march 6, 2013 raped while in the emirate on buisness and immediately she reported the gruesome tale, Local authorities arrested her for four days and had her documents and money confiscated. However Norwegian diplomats secured her release after four days to the local Norwegian Seamen's Church to wait for the justice to be served. The Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday that the verdict "flies in the face of our notion of justice" and was "highly problematic" in terms of Western human rights. For a rape conviction, United Arab Emirates law requires either a confession or four adult male witnesses to the attack.

19 July, 2013 Foreign A man who strangled his mother and then dismembered her body when he was 18 years old has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The murder by Moises Meraz-Espinoza was described as one of the 'most disgusting, hideous and vulgar' cases the judge had ever seen. A trail of blood and an electrical circular saw, with bone, blood and flesh stuck to the blade, were found in Meraz-Espinoza's California apartment after he confessed to the killing in February 2011. Prosecutors said that Amelia Espinoza had been skinned, filleted and dismembered as part of a satanic ritual. The 42-year-old woman's dismembered body was found in a freezer in the Maywood apartment. Her skull, with the eyes and teeth removed and two upside down crosses carved into it, was discovered in a backpack, but her organs were never found. Meraz-Espinoza used box cutters to skin his mother before freezing her. 17 July, 2013 Local The Army hierarchy may have cleared the air on the employment status of Hamza Al Mustapha, former chief security officer, CSO, of the late military head of state, General Sani Abacha, but the coast may not be totally clear for him to return to the army. According to reliable sources in the Defense headquarters, Al-Mustapha must first be certified fit to return to the army. As result, it was learnt, a psychological evaluation session has been scheduled for the former CSO. According to details gathered by the journalists today, clinical sessions for assessing the mental fitness of the army major has been scheduled in either one of the military hospitals in Enugu or Lagos. It was learnt that the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Azubuike Ihejirika, had expressly ordered the clinical session.
