Kenya Coach Amrouche Announces 25-man Squad To Face Nigeria

24 April, 2013 Football Gor Mahia goalkeeper Jerim Onyango has been recalled to the Harambee Stars squad to start preparations for the return leg match of the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Nairobi on June 5. Onyango, who has been in and out of the team, makes a comeback to fight for the goalkeeping position alongside Sofapaka’s Duncan Ochieng, Wilson Obungu (Bandari) and Martin Musalia (AFC Leopards). Thika United forward Kennedy Otieno has earned a call up to the team for the first time after he scored a hat-trick against Karuturi Sports during Sunday’s KPL fixture in Thika. Other new faces include Chemelil Sugar’s Daniel Mutai, Ben Barasa of Sony Sugar, David Mwaura (Mathare United) and of Benedict Owuor KCB. 24 April, 2013 Politics The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Tuesday described the merger of opposition political parties on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a weak association that would crumble and disappear by 2014, one year before the next general election. So confident is he of this that during a courtesy visit to THISDAY corporate offices in Lagos yesterday, he put his father’s name on the line. “If they don’t crumble and disappear by 2014, don’t call me Okupe,” he bragged. Nigeria: N921.4 Billion is Needed For Road Projects.

24 April, 2013 Business and Economy Citing a lean purse, and the pressure of time, the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, Wednesday, said they are shopping for N921.4 billion of the N1.39 trillion they need to complete 195 ongoing road projects across the country.   The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, who briefed journalists after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, said, if government were to depend solely on its annual budget, “it will take another eight years before the projects can be completed.”   Mr. Onolememen, spoke alongside the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, hinting at a plan of a loan to cover the shortfall.   “To ensure timely completion of all the projects, a multilateral approach was under way as well as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme that will add about 6,000 kilometers of road nationwide is being explored,” he said. Saturday’s UTME May Not Hold In The North - JAMB

24 April, 2013 Education The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination may not hold in troubled Northern  states on Saturday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Wednesday.   Addressing Journalists in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, said the board “may not hesitate to stop the examination” if there is any security problem”.   Media reports say no fewer than 185 people died in last Friday’s  face-off between the Boko Haram and the Joint Task Force in Baga, Borno State, while 2,000 houses were reportedly razed.   Responding to a question on security challenges in the country, Ojerinde said, “yesterday it was a big discussion among some agents as well as JAMB. 24 April, 2013 Accidents On Thursday a ghastly motor accident occurred along Owerri, Port Harcourt express road after the Army Barracks in Obinze, just a few meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd, involving a petrol tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers. Three passengers died on the spot including the driver, two died later at the hospital. As if that was not enough, on Friday a Sienna coming from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic Ohaji somersaulted severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully the three occupants came out alive with praises to God. Today Tuesday, a man was caught on that same spot with charms doing what was best known to him in a language most people didn’t understand. He was promptly surrounded by the youths of Ohaji. Man Held For Selling Newborn Grandson On Facebook

24 April, 2013 Foreign Police in northern India said Wednesday they had arrested a 47-year-old man for selling his newborn grandson to a local businessman in a deal that was struck on Facebook. Feroz Khan, a resident of Ludhiana city in the northern state of Punjab 300 kilometres from New Delhi, had allegedly kidnapped his grandson shortly after he was born earlier this month. Khan sought help from two temporary employees at a local hospital where his daughter gave birth, who contacted the buyer on Facebook and arranged the deal for 45,000 rupees ($830). "All three people who conspired to sell the child have been arrested and we will be interrogating the businessman who paid the money to buy the baby," Satish Malhotra, a senior police officer in Ludhiana said. Police have rescued the baby and returned him to his mother, Noori Khan, a divorcee, who had lodged the complaint against her father. The three accused have been charged
