More Than $1million Tossed From A Plane

3 October, 2013 Features Money might not grow on trees, but how about if it falls from the sky? That's the awesome scenario described by Bolivian authorities who say they seized more than $1 million this week after a white bag was tossed from an airplane in Santa Cruz. The Interior Ministry in a statement said anti-drug police first noticed a person signaling a plane, before the money was thrown out as the aircraft flew low. Bolivia is one of the world's largest producers of coca, the raw ingredient in cocaine. Three people were "captured," with authorities saying it also seized weapons and vehicles. Investigation is ongoing.

3 October, 2013 Local A 70-year-old man, Mr Ogbonnaya Ani in Umuose Urobo, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is swimming in the ocean of grief as seven members of his family have been afflicted with madness one after the other. According to report, Ogbonnaya Ani’s elder brother’s daughter is mentally challenged. His younger brother’s son is in the same condition. Three of his own children, a male and two females, are equally afflicted. His daughter-in-law is not left out. So, there are six mentally ill persons in the family and, perhaps, still counting. Worst still, one of Ani’s mentally challenged daughters is heavily pregnant and no one seems to know who the lover boy is. And before his first wife died, she exhibited some signs of madness. 3 October, 2013 Local A middle aged woman, simply named Rose on Tuesday evening, set her house ablaze when she discovered that her husband, Olayiwola was allegedly sleeping with one of their neighbours inside their one-room apartment. The couple, who lived together in the apartment at Aderin area of Osogbo with other tenants and the owner of the house were living peacefully until recently when Rose discovered that her husband was involved in illicit affair with one of their neighbours. It was gathered that Rose, whose shop was close to the house noticed that her husband was in the room with a woman, who was also her friend and set the house on fire to punish the husband and his lover. However, sources stated that Olayiwola and his lover narrowly escaped from the house and their whereabouts remained unknown as at press time. FG To Buy Made-in-Nigeria Vehicles

3 October, 2013 Local There are reports that the Federal Government yesterday approved the Automotive Industrial Policy Development Plan for the country. The approval was made during a Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. The government hopes to significantly reduce the high vehicle importation bill, which stood at $3.4bn (N550bn) in 2012, through the policy. As a first step, the Federal Government said all vehicles purchased by it would be from local assembly plants, except they were specialised and could not be produced in the country. The ministers of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku; Federal Capital Territory, Bala Muhammed; and Industry, Trade and Investment,  Olusegun Aganga, briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting. World Bank Plans To Invest One Billion Dollars In Nigeria's Power Sector

3 October, 2013 Local The World Bank has decided to invest in Nigeria’s power sector with the sum of $1 billion. This grant is expected to accelerate the post privatisation process of the power sector. The international finance corporation, a member of the World Bank says it will make long term loan financing available to the sector because of the potentials it presents. This amount is to be shared among three distribution and generation companies that won the privatisation bid. IFC is set to provide financing to mobilize funds for one power generation company and also planning to invest in another power generation company, with further plans to support up to three power distribution companies. These projects will add 1, 500 MW to Nigeria’s grid and are part of the World Bank Group’s intervention in the sector, which is built into the Group’s Energy Business Plan.

BREAKING: Plane Crashes At Lagos Airport (UPDATED)

3 October, 2013 Local There has been information that a light plane, probably on test drive, crash landed at  the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos  this morning. According to latest reports, a 20-seater Associated Airline jet flying to Akure, Ondo believed to be carrying passengers heading for the burial of former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Agagu. Unconfirmed reports say that the aircraft also carried the body of the late Governor. Some persons are feared dead and several others injured, The Nation reports. It is not yet known if there have been any casualties as the details are still sketchy . Sources said the plane took off and immediately nose-dived into a building in the area. According to a witness, the crash occurred at the local wing of the airport close to the section were JET-A1, plane fuel, is stored. Keshi replaced Samson Siasia as Super Eagles trainer in 2011 following the latter’s failure to lead Nigeria to the finals of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
