SSANU Keeps Promise, Joins Indefinite Strike

1 October, 2013 Education The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) joined ASUU and started an indefinite strike on September 30, 2013, Monday. This followed by a unanimous resolution adopted by members of the University of Ibadan chapter of the association at a congress held at the University Arts Theatre in Ibadan. Dr. Wale Akinremi, the Chairman of the Association, University of Ibadan chapter, confirmed that the strike was total, and it would not be over, unless called off by the national body. “This is as a result of the directive from our National Executive Council; so, the strike is a national strike.” Dr. Akinremi further noted that the Association should have gone on strike for a very long time “because of the government’s provoking way of attending to issues”. “We have been short-changed by the government in the area of subventions and we cannot take it again”, the Chairman of the Association said. Local Nigeria’s 53rd independence anniversary received a blow as five former heads of state rebuffed the festivities held yesterday at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. They are Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Generals Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
