What does a city full of supercars need to keep its streets safe? Apparently, another 217-mph supercar.
Nothing to see here -- just a Lamborghini Aventador patrol car keeping watch on those mean streets of Dubai.
We originally thought an Aventador with a light bar was another dumb decal job meant for tacky supercar rallys like the Gumball 3000, but the Dubai Police have confirmed that yes, this Lamborghini is here to show "how classy Dubai is."
In a city bleeding with tax-free wealth and unregulated banking, supercars dot Dubai's streets like buskers in Manhattan subways. Nearly every YouTube video shows the same shot: multimillion-dollar strings of exotics valeted at the Mall of the Emirates, which just happens to have its own indoor ski resort.
That's where the police tweeted the photo below, just outside the covered entrance where the rarest, most ridiculously painted vehicles in the world show up day in and day out.
But this $550,000 Aventador isn't the last sports car for the department. Strangely enough, it's also adding the Camaro SS to the fleet in order to "enhance its patrolling abilities."
This, in a city built by migrant workers with few to no civil rights, in a country that hasn't granted full suffrage to its citizens and that leaves five of its seven emirates in relative poverty, is needed. But given that Dubai is a triple-distilled, ultra-select Las Vegas -- but under Islamic rule, without the alcohol -- money is seen as wasted only when it's not being spent.
It's not the first Lambo cop car, either. In Qatar, the Doja police have a Gallardo traffic car. So did the Italian police, who wrecked it.
