Venom GT - the world's fastest car?
Hennessey has just made the bold claim that its 928kW hyper-car is now the world's fastest production car.
Put to the test on a runway in California recently, a Venom GT managed to hit 427.5km/h.
However, the Venom GT takes its title on
something of a technicality. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has hit
431km/h, but that was with the limiter removed - the one that's for sale
has an electronically limited top end of 415km/h.
Nonetheless, Hennessey hints that it may make another top speed attempt if it finds a suitable stretch of road.
Earlier this year, the Venom GT achieved an
official Guinness world record for the fastest acceleration time from
zero to 300km/h - a feat that it performed in 13.63 seconds.
Tipping the scales at just 1244kg - about the
same as an average compact hatchback - the GT is shoved along by a
7-litre twin-turbo V8 that's credited with 928kW and 1564Nm.
