6. One of the most terrifying scenes in the sequence was legions of reanimated corpses hurling themselves over a cliffside. But the pre-production shot shows the stuntmen leaping onto a cushion floor just feet below.

10. Peter Vaughan (Aemon Targaryen) is actually blind.

Actor Peter Vaughan, who plays Maester Aemon in Game of Thrones, has given us some of the most heartfelt scenes in the series. He may be slow moving, blind, and a little bitter at times, but he always gets his point across. Peter Vaughan is obviously a very talented actor, but what you may not know is that he is actually blind in real life. So besides having to act in the frigid cold at the age of 92, he is also doing so without the luxury of sight. This is quite impressive and gives a whole new perspective on the talent this actor possesses.

11. The Opening Titles were inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s Drawings.

The credits feature an interactive map of Westeros and at each location, mechanisms and landmarks are revealed. The turning wheels and cogs are said to represent the struggle for power in each of the kingdoms and bear a distinct resemblance to Da Vinci’s famous plans for his many inventions.

12. Brienne Actress Gwendoline Christie is Even Taller than You’d Think.

The statuesque actress is an incredible 6 feet 3 inches and seems to have found her calling in the role of the honour-bound knight. Christie, who is 36 and graduated from the Drama Centre London in 2005, is so striking she was even the subject of a series of photographs from photographer Polly Borland. Her role in Game of Thrones is her first in a major television series making Christie one of the many rising stars from the series.

13. Joffrey Actor Jack Gleeson is Actually Very Nice, Loving, and quiet in the real life.

As the success of Game of Thrones has grown, so too has King Joffrey’s awfulness. Everyone’s favourite character is played by Irish actor, Jack Gleeson, who contrary to his character is really quite nice. The mild-mannered actor is a student of the prestigious Trinity College Dublin, where he is awarded a much sought-after scholarship in his subject. When he’s not got his head in the books at college, the blonde boy can frequently be spotted cycling around the city. He has also co-founded a new theatre group in the Irish capital, Collapsing Horse Theatre Company, with some fellow Trinity graduates. Yet another reason to visit the Emerald Isle.

15. The Horse heart was made of Gummy bears.

What about the scene where you're eating the horse’s heart? What was that actually made out of?

"That was one of those amazing scenes that you get as an actor that there’s just no acting required at all, it was disgusting. They promised me that it would taste similar to a gummy bear and it definitely didn’t. It was kind of like the best way to describe it is sort of a congealed jam kind of thing. On the out takes, there will be me heaving into a bucket. It’s such a reflex, when you taste something that’s just so revolting, you kind of instantly just want to get rid of it. It’s safe to say that I didn’t eat lunch that day".
