2016 MAMAs picks October date for event
The
presenters of the annual MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), which had
its previous edition, last year in Durban, South Africa, have officially
announced the 22nd of October, 2016 as the awards night. Although the
list of nominees and performers for the event is yet to be released,
the event is scheduled to hold at the Ticket Pro Dome, Johannesburg,
South Africa.
They also announced that Khuli Chana, a South African rapper would be releasing a collaboration album.
The
previous edition of the awards saw P-square winning Artist of the
Decade, Best Group Award, D’banj won MTV Evolution Award, Davido went
home with African Best Male Artist, and Yemi Alade Best Female Artist.
The MTV Africa Music Awards (also known as the MAMAs) were established
in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa (now Viacom International Media Networks
Africa) to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa. The
MTV Africa Music Awards was conceived and created by the SVP and MD of
the Network in Africa, Alex Okosi (the man behind the launch of MTV
into Africa in 2005) and Jandre Louw, the Head of Events for MTV
Networks in Africa at the time.
