The presenters of the annual MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), which had its previous edition, last year in Durban, South Africa, have officially announced the 22nd of October, 2016 as the awards night. Although the list of nominees and performers for the event is yet to be released, the event is scheduled to hold at the Ticket Pro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa.
They also announced that Khuli Chana, a South African rapper would be releasing a collaboration album.
The previous edition of the awards saw P-square winning Artist of the Decade, Best Group Award, D’banj won MTV Evolution Award, Davido went home with African Best Male Artist, and Yemi Alade Best Female Artist. The MTV Africa Music Awards (also known as the MAMAs) were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa (now Viacom International Media Networks Africa) to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa. The MTV Africa Music Awards was conceived and created by the SVP and MD of the Network in Africa, Alex Okosi (the man behind the launch of MTV into Africa in 2005) and Jandre Louw, the Head of Events for MTV Networks in Africa at the time.
